The Month That Were

Row 1: Dragged my Swedish husband to see Kids in the Hall (after making him sit through some of the best sketches on YouTube, and patiently listen to me going on and on about how often I watched the reruns on Comedy Central throughout high school and college). Also, I wore my Rod Torfulson's ARMADA featuring Herman Menderchuk fan tshirt.
Row 2: Walking around Bryant Park and Times Square really late at night... Still loads of people outside enjoying the summertime and clamoring to view actors leaving the Broadway theaters (quite a few police horses).
Row 3: Bought peonies / Stolen honeysuckle –two of my favorite flowers and smells of summer.

Row 1: Bush Terminal Park in Sunset Park. Still under construction, still worth it to check out. Love it when Brooklyn, New York, doesn't look like Brooklyn (and you can wander in unsafe conditions and no one's around.) NO. ONE.
Row 2: Amy Schumer at The Apollo! First time for both of us to be at this venue, too.
Row 3: Sunset Park and Gowanus brick wall art.

Row 1: The fire escape garden is doing swell so far this year (cos Fisby's keeping the grass mowed).
Row 2: Cool building street stuff across from BAM, and inside the new H&M (which isn't where I shop these days, but the view from the second floor reminds me of those old photos of the view one would have when the 6th Avenue elevated train was still a thing.
Row 3: Fisby about to fall out of her cat tree. And more nature... some of the many swans in Prospect Park.

The Week That Were

Found some beautiful ranunculus this season at Food Train (surprisingly). Usually the peonies are the best, but this year I noticed the ranunculus flowers so I got loads in all the colors –and was inspired to break out the floral sneakers.

Last Last Weekend

May 30th and 31st a vintage pop-up marketplace, A Current Affair, happened just down the street from me. I got a weekend pass to check out both days and was really impressed. I still can't believe over 50 vendors dealing specifically with vintage apparel came right to my doorstep in Brooklyn. I live in Sunset Park and it's one of the least gentrified neighborhoods in Brooklyn, so I was surprised such a thing happened here. Also, I was surprised to check out the area now called Industry City. It's kind of exciting, I wish it had started 10 years ago when I first moved to Sunset Park. But then if that were the case, my rent would not be so reasonable (and it was fun back in the mid-00's to sneak up on the roofs of those warehouses and take photos back when the water towers were still attached).

Anyway, from Rhiannon's Vintage I found the cross stitch fly slip-ons, and a silk Gucci floral scarf in the print I'm currently VERY OBSESSED WITH from Spanish Moss. I saw so many beautiful items both days, and if I weren't on my way out of NYC and on to living in Europe, I would hope A Current Affair returns again and again to my not-so-secretly-secret part of Brooklyn so I could look at (and buy in person) the beautiful well-curated vintage items from some of my favorite shops and sellers.

Best Mail of the Week

Awesome pins (sold-out ghosts - restock soon) from artist, illustrator, weirdo, Sara M. Lyons!

She sells on Etsy, but fuck that sniz cos she now sells new items on her own damn thing now and is on Instagram cos that's all that matters anyway. She also has a tumblr and recent post about businesses stealing artists' work –which is something I think about all the time and makes me incredibly sad, but I have an "important friend"(I have no friends) who says it's actually Ok if a really, really big company like UO or whatevs steals your art cos you can get a copyright lawyer and sue (pity for the underdog! settle out of court!) and win in these cases since it's becoming so common. Soooooooo, I'M CURRENTLY PLANNING ON PUTTING ALL MY IDEAS OUT THERE IN WWW LAND NOW IN HOPES OF BECOMING A MILLIONAIRE*.

*I will never do this, but what I did just do is sneeze where a little bit throat snot came out and landed on my couch.

Cat Daddy and Cat Lady buttons from These Are Things.
Stuntin pins. Inner Decay pin.

I have been ordering patches + pins, as if they were just created and the more I have of each will make me a better person emotionally and logically and LITERALLY. I don't know what it is exactly, but I love maximalism (ugh, that term) and I love supporting these artists and their...art.

I also really raelly really raedklkdjlly enjoy seeing the packaging these items are sent with, and These Are Things doesn't disappoint. WOW. Every time I'm so happy. It's a gift experience. And the couple behind TAT are doing the #100dayproject (google it) so every day they're offering a new "gift".
